Lady Hawks Soar to Victory, Delivering Coach Ashley Lopez Her 100th Career Win

In an exciting Friday doubleheader against Western Texas College, Howard College Softball delivered a performance full of grit, power, and precision. And amidst all the excitement, head coach Ashley Lopez achieved a monumental milestone—her 100th career win as a head coach.

Game 1: Howard College 5, Western Texas College 9
In the first game, the Lady Hawks showcased some early spark, with a solid 1st inning that gave them a 1-0 lead. Freshman star Caylee Berg blasted a home run and tallied 2 RBIs, while Elena Mendez added a 3rd-inning triple and stole two bases. Despite an early back-and-forth, Western Texas College pulled ahead with a dominant 6th inning, as they capitalized on a 4-run rally. Howard's offense continued to fight, adding a final run in the 7th, but it wasn't enough to overcome Western Texas College's late surge.

Game 2: Howard College 8, Western Texas College 2
In the second game, the Lady Hawks found their rhythm, cruising to an 8-2 victory behind a 2nd inning explosion and clutch performances at the plate. Elena Mendez and Beatrice Hitomi both recorded multi-hit games, with Mendez adding a double and stealing a base. Caylee Berg also continued her hot streak, adding another RBI. Kaela Martinez shone in the circle, tossing a complete game, allowing just two earned runs, and finishing with 4 strikeouts. The Lady Hawks piled on the runs in the late innings to seal the deal in dominant fashion.

It was a series that showed off both the depth and determination of Coach Lopez's squad. The milestone victory serves as a testament to the hard work, leadership, and passion Lopez has poured into the program since taking the helm. Here's to many more wins and milestones ahead for Coach Lopez and the Lady Hawks! Lady Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, April 26th against Odessa College.
