Weather Woe's Make Way For Winning Streak

The Howard College Lady Hawks are on fire, extending their win streak to four games after a dominant doubleheader sweep of both Otero College and Wayland Baptist. The team showcased explosive offense and lockdown pitching, outscoring their opponents 23-2 across the first of the 2 series'.

The Lady Hawks are rolling after such a tumultuous few weeks, battling weather-related delays and game cancellations that kept them off the field more than they would have liked. But any rust was nowhere to be found as they delivered back-to-back commanding performances at home.

In Game 1, Howard College methodically built its lead before a five-run sixth inning sealed an 8-0 run-rule victory. Caylee Berg led the charge at the plate, driving in three runs, while Angelina Corral added two RBIs of her own. Kaela Martinez was untouchable in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out three in a complete-game shutout.

The Lady Hawks carried that momentum straight into Game 2, wasting no time by erupting for six runs in the first inning and never looking back in a 15-2 rout. Mackenzie Vela, Elena Mendez, and Morgan Crandall each crossed home plate multiple times, while Sadie Ryan tallied three RBIs. Mendez also took care of business in the circle, throwing a five-inning complete game and surrendering just one earned run.

Lady Hawks Dominate Wayland Baptist to Extend Win Streak to Four

After sweeping their first doubleheader against Wayland Baptist, they came back for round two and left no doubt, outscoring their opponents 29-6 over the next two games.

Game 1: Late-Inning Explosion Leads to 15-5 Victory

The Lady Hawks took a little time to heat up, but once they did, they couldn't be stopped. Down 3-1 heading into the fifth, Howard's bats came alive, dropping six runs to take control. They tacked on two more in the sixth before unleashing a monster six-run seventh to put the game out of reach.

Aryah Barrera was the star at the plate, driving in five runs with a three-hit performance. Elena Mendez, Caylee Berg, and Mackenzie Vela all contributed clutch hits as well. On the bases, Howard was aggressive, swiping five bags to keep the pressure on Wayland Baptist's defense.

In the circle, Ellie Kissinger went the distance, scattering 10 hits over seven innings while striking out one and allowing just two earned runs.

Game 2: Hawks Run Rule Wayland in Statement Win, 14-1

If the first game was about a late surge, the second game was about total dominance from start to finish. Howard jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, plating runs in every inning before putting the game away with a six-run explosion in the sixth.

Sadie Ryan was unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Savannah Powell joined the long ball club with a home run and three RBIs of her own, while Eva O'Loughlan flexed her power with two homers in the game.

Kaela Martinez was lights out in the circle, allowing just five hits and one unearned run in six innings while racking up seven strikeouts.

Four Straight and Rolling

With these two wins, the Lady Hawks are officially on a roll, stretching their win streak to four games and sending a clear message: this team is dangerous. With the offense firing on all cylinders and the pitching keeping opponents in check, Howard College is proving they're a force to be reckoned with.

Next up, they'll look to keep the momentum going against Clarendon College on March 21st to start conference play and extend the streak even further.
