Kaeona Marquez returns to Big Spring as the new Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach
Please join us in RE-welcoming Kaeona Marquez as she returns to Big Spring and her alma mater as the new Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. No stranger to these halls and court, Coach Marquez survived her baptism by fire playing for Coach Ish and came out battle-hardened and ready to take the lessons she learned as a player and instill those virtues in this Hawks team as their new Assistant Coach.
Coach Marquez is no novice when it comes to success or the big stage as she was a four-year starter for her basketball team at Dalhart High School as point guard, arguably one of the most difficult positions in all sports. Being thrown to the wolves early paid dividends in her junior and senior years, as she would become a two-time Texas All-State election. Her success wasn't limited to just athletics, as her philanthropic efforts were just as fruitful as she would spearhead charitable efforts such as the 'Snak Shak', which was an after-school program that filled bags of food for others in need.
After high school, she attended Howard College and played for the Hawks for two years. Success naturally wasn't too far behind as she earned 2nd Team Conference honors her first-year student year, WJCAC WBB Honorable Mention, Heart of the Hawk award, and was elected Team Captain. With accolades like that, Marquez was a natural fit for the program and for the job.
It comes as no surprise that Coach Kaeona's favorite basketball players are two of the greatest, Kobe Bryant and Kelsey Plum. With inspirations such as those, our team is in line for a great, albeit intense future, but that's the kind of fire Hawk Athletics is used to. Coach Marquez continues her journey accompanied by her partner Alex and their two dogs, Sulli the boxer, and Milo the Maltese.
We are glad to have you back, Coach, and we look forward to an incredible season. Welcome home!
